Created by Bertha Medina of Cochas Chico, a small village high in the Peruvian Andes, each hand-carved gourd is a one-of-a-kind work of folk art. Bertha learned the traditional craft at just five years old from her father, the renowned master carver Evaristo Medina, continuing a family tradition passed down through generations.

Every gourd tells a unique story inspired by daily life in the Peruvian Andes. Bertha carefully selects each natural gourd from Peru's coastal region, where the finest carving gourds are grown. She then meticulously hand-carves every design using traditional knives, awls, and other specialized tools. Intricate details are enhanced with hand-painted accents, while shading and texture are created using controlled burning techniques.

Because each gourd is handcrafted from a natural material, no two pieces are exactly alike. Variations in size, shape, color, and carved details are part of the artistry and make every gourd unique. The item you receive may differ slightly from the one(s) pictured, and an exact match cannot be guaranteed.

The result is an authentic, handcrafted piece that celebrates Peru's rich artistic heritage and the enduring tradition of Andean storytelling.

Approximately 2 inches tall and wide.
